Geweldige special effects, spooky italo soundtrack van Fabio Frizzi en piss poor acting (door o.a. Tisa Farrow, zus van, en Ian McCulloch, niet van Echo & The Bunnymen).
De film is berucht om verschillende redenen :
* begin jaren '80 kreeg de film het label Video Nasty in het Verenigd Koninrijk en was verboden tot 1999
* in de bioscoop werden bij de release kotszakjes uitgedeeld
Pleasure is very excited to be hosting a night with Teengirl Fantasy on november 21st in antwerp and as i checked their myspace once again to listen to those blissed out collages, i clicked on a profile listed amongst their top friends. Blondes, the name appealed to me. they had a youtube video up of which the preview image was that of a televised dance show (gotta love those!) so i looked at it and was interested and casually clicked their first track Moondance.

seriously, wow. and i mean that.
fans of Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom (or Gavin's more recent Black Meteoric Star) will not only nod their heads in approval, they will fucking freak out. i know i did. fuck me if i'm not hosting a night with these kids in some warehouse or wherever blasting their shit as loud as our ears will allow it. this is music to be immersed in. not necessarily but understandably to take drugs to or in my case, get your drink on.
i wouldn't be surprised if they will get picked up like *snap*, yo! Merok and DFA are suspects in my book. listen to their pieces with care, be sure not to drop your jaw on your desk in amazement.
also give the youtube videos they got up there a look, they're cool.
hey! ugh, i've been busy with bullshit not horsecrap and lost touch with the beloved blogosphere. oh, the horror! there's been awesome past Pleasure with What's Up, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Nite Jewel and Neon Indian. all of them so nice and the Yacht kids were no exception. such sweety (vegan!) pies! they had an entertaining show, yet i'm excited they will be back with a full live band next time around.
what or who is Yacht?
there's Jona Bechtolt who was briefly a part of The Blow, a moniker used by Mikhaela Yvonne Maricich. he stumbled into music by playing the drums in Allegro, the band of his older brother -who no longer plays music, he informed me- of whom unfortunately i can't seem to track down any footage, after which he started fooling around with electronics in the late 90's to officially debut as Yacht in 2003. and then there's his girlfriend Claire Evans who joined Jona relatively recently in 2008 and in my opinion it's essentially a return to the area The Blow circa Poor Aim: Love Songs was also operating in which i liked very much, albeit a bit more up-tempo or danceable.
anyone else think there's an uncanny (and surely coincidental) resemblance to the chorus in Yelle's A Cause Des Garçons?
another song isn't so coincidentally similar, i think. i've actually had a pretty intense argument about this particular song.
fuck me if that's not a blatant Miss You (mmm special disco version) rip off. i only resent it because Jona is such a talented guy and capable of much more than this kind of repetition. yeah, Yacht rocks, actually. Yacht rocks? that brings us seamlessly to Yacht Rock, yay!
Yacht Rock was a short-lived mockumentary about a genre (having found entry in musical nomenclature ever since!) championed by such musicians as Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. it boils down to rock music always having to be smooth. it is quite simply hilarious. there is no excuse for you not to watch it (and learn at the same time = whoa!). like, now. all of them, one after another. go!

Prachtige muziek uit één van de meest shockerende films die je in de gebruikelijke winkels kan aantreffen. Enkele keywords vanop IMDB : emasculation, pregnant woman murdered, actual animal killed. Een aanrader, maar eentje waarvan je -normaal gezien- na één keer genoeg hebt.
